Did you know that black dogs are usually adopted last and euthanized first in shelters throughout our state?  Beautiful purebred black labs, black puppies of all sizes and shapes and every breed of dog that may be black are in more danger than any other color.  

There is an abundance of black dogs and puppies in all the kill shelters, and Illinois Animal Rescue is dedicated to educating the public on their plight, and to saving as many of these wonderful black pets as possible. 

The dogs and puppies you see in these pictures are the lucky ones, they have all been rescued by Illinois Animal Rescue and have been transported to their new rescues and no-kill shelters where they will find loving homes. 

Black kittens and cats are even more urgent as the dogs, there are so many euthanized each year due to overpopulation. Spaying and neutering your pets is the key to preventing this terrible problem. The kitten and cat you see below have been rescued by Illinois Animal Rescue, but there are so many that do not make it out of the kill shelters.

Please help Illinois Animal Rescue spread the word and the next time you are ready to adopt a dog or cat, puppy or kitten, please remember that the black ones are just as friendly, playful, affectionate, and the most urgent.  They are beautiful animals and they need our help.
