Did you know hounds are very abundant in Illinois and used as hunting dogs, but many end up in kill shelters? Especially hounds that have no interest in hunting.

These hounds may be Beagles, Treeing Walker Coonhounds, Bluetick or Redtick Coonhounds, Black & Tan Coonhounds, Transylvania Hounds and many more varieties.

Unfortunately, hounds are one of the hardest breed to get into rescue in the Chicagoland area because they are not adopted quickly from the shelters here, even though they make a fabulous family companion.

Hounds are usually very good with children, love to play, are affectionate, and have overall happy dispositions.

IAR hopes to spread the word about all the wonderful hounds that need rescue in our Illinois kill shelters and hopefully increase the number of adoptions for this terrific breed so that more hounds can be saved.

The next time you are at your local shelter looking for a family companion, please consider adopting a wonderful hound! With your help, we can help these beautiful dogs get more exposure and a new chance on life!
